You’ve heard it before, UP is the microcosm of Philippine society (well not so much now, post-TOFI) and the election season is just as disgusting here as in the national scale. I have friends who are running for council positions and I’m happy for them, hope they win. But to be honest, any sort of student council has never had any sort of value in my life. So for me, the elections can be held in pageant form (if what happens every February doesn’t technically qualify as pageantry) or race or tambyolo, I cannot care less. It’s more for them, for the ambitious vote-seekers (no hate, really. Ambition is a good thing), for the administration (that they may absolve themselves of tyranny) and the few others who enjoy the show. So good luck to all who are running, may your dreams come true. When you successfully nab that seat you so covet, please try your hardest not to be annoying. Many of us don’t expect much, or anything at all. The least you can do is to let us keep our zen.
